Children help spruce up Bowersdale Park

Green fingered litter pickers as young as five have helped spruce up Bowersdale Park in Seaforth.

Ten children and dozens of adults descended on the park recently, collecting an astonishing 40 full bin bags worth of litter which inconsiderate visitors had dumped there.

The community litter pick was organised jointly by homeless charity ‘Emmaus’ and the Friends of Bowersdale Park group, along with support and assistance from Sefton’s Parks and Greenspaces team.Bowersdale park clean up

Cllr Ian Moncur, Sefton Council’s Cabinet Member for Health and Wellbeing, said: “We were delighted that so many people, including passionate youngsters, came out in force to clean up Bowersdale Park.

“A big thank you must also go to Emmaus and the Friends of Bowersdale Park for organising the clean up.

“The children especially were shocked that there are people who treat our parks with such disrespect by not disposing of their litter in a responsible way.

“While the park now looks immaculate, to have 40 bags full of rubbish just goes to show how irresponsible people can be.

“At the end of the afternoon you could see the huge difference the volunteers had made to the park.

“We look forward to welcoming many more likeminded litter-pickers throughout our Year of the Volunteer campaign.”
