On course to boost wellbeing

Living Well Sefton’s partner Feelgood Factory is running two Think Differently, Cope Differently courses in February.

If you are feeling stressed, a bit low or having difficulty coping with things right now then this FREE five-week course could be what you need.

One course starts Thursday, 8 February at the Feelgood Factory in Netherton. While the other is at Woodvale Community Centre, Meadow Lane, Ainsdale on Wednesday, 21 February. Both courses run 10am to 12noon. Book through central number 0300 323 0181 or email: LWS@seftoncvs.org.uk

The course provides the skills and tools to help overcome worries and challenges that lead to negative and unhelpful thinking. People will be able to:

Find ways of managing anxiety and negative thinking

Set goals and learn problem solving techniques

The course is based on the Five Ways to Wellbeing which are:

Connect: social relationships are important for people’s wellbeing and for acting as a buffer against mental ill health and that is why making connections is so valuable.
Be active: we’re not talking heavy exercise or becoming a gym bunny. Take a walk, go cycling or go up the stairs instead of taking the lift.
Take notice: take time to enjoy the moment and the environment around you, such as having a ‘clear the clutter’ day, take a different route to work, or look around when going on a walk.
Keep learning: learning new skills can give you a sense of achievement and a new confidence. Sign up for a new class, research something you’ve wondered about or learn a new word.
Give: whether it’s a smile, your time, a kind word or volunteering in the community, an act of kindness once a week over a six-week period is associated with an increase in wellbeing.

Remember it’s Time to Talk Day on Thursday, 1 February which gives everyone the chance to put a few of the Five Ways into practice – take notice of how people are feeling and start a chat to support them so they don’t feel alone; make connections with people by discussing how they feel; and by doing this you are giving your time and attention. #SeftoninMind #timetotalk
